How to use your portable espresso machine

Making an espresso or lungo becomes child’s play, even if you've never used a portable coffee machine before.

Step-by-step guide to get the most out of your Handpresso Auto:

1. Preparation

Take the machine out of its carrying case, grab a capsule or ground coffee, and choose your cup (espresso or lungo).

2. Powering On

Press the power button once: the machine exits standby mode and the LED lights show the battery level (rechargeable via USB-C).

• 5 lights: full battery, around 5 espressos or 2 lungos.
• 1 light: last cup before recharge.

3. Filling the Water Tank

Unscrew the portafilter and capsule holder, then pour water into the tank (max 100 ml). Screw the capsule holder back on tightly.

4. Choosing Your Coffee

• Nespresso® Original and compatible capsules*: insert your capsule just like on a home machine.
• Ground coffee: use the included reusable capsule (or available on our website), filled with 7 g of finely ground and lightly tamped coffee.

5. Preheating

Screw the portafilter back on, then press the power button once. The light will blink to indicate preheating has started.

6. Heating

Double-click the button. It turns red as the water begins heating.

• Espresso (40 ml): about 3 min 30
• Lungo (80 ml): about 5 to 6 minutes

Once the optimal temperature (92°C / 198°F) is reached, the machine beeps 3 times and the cup icon lights up.

7. Extraction

Turn the machine upside down over your cup. The self-gripping portafilter ensures stability. Press the “cup” button to start brewing with 19-bar pressure, then press again to stop.

8. Enjoy

Your coffee is ready: a creamy, intense espresso worthy of a barista.

9. Cleaning

Remove the used capsule and rinse the tank, portafilter, and capsule holder. Maintenance is much simpler than with a traditional electric coffee machine.

⚠️ Do not transport the machine with water inside: movement may cause leaks and damage the unit.

• 5–6 min for lungo (80 ml)

If you already have hot water (from a thermos or kettle), you can skip heating and double-click the "cup" button to immediately start brewing.

This express mode lets you prepare over 100 coffees on a single charge, saving battery. The result? The same rich, intense coffee with a generous crema.

By filling the tank to the max (100 ml), you can make two espressos in a row. Just change the capsule after the first cup, screw the portafilter back on, and launch the second.
